Productivity of grains in Ukraine significantly varies by region

According to the State Statistics Service, in the 2025/25 season, Ukraine harvested 61.04 million tons of grains and legumes, which is 8.2% more than the previous season. This is reported in a publication on Latifundist.com.

As noted, the result was primarily driven by two main crops – wheat and corn.

Wheat showed the best quantitative result since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, yielding 23.34 million tons (+3.6% compared to the previous year). Corn, despite concerns, also brought a larger gross harvest of 30.9 million tons (+14.6%).

At the same time, the averaged national productivity indicator for the 2025/26 marketing year masks a significant disparity between regions. While the West and North reaped high harvests, the South, East, and a substantial part of the Center suffered from prolonged weather anomalies.

Historically, the main public benchmark for productivity in Ukraine has been data from state statistics. This year, the Latifundist Media team decided to supplement it with an alternative assessment – the results of a survey of over 500 Ukrainian agricultural producers.

Within the scope of the research, the Latifundist Media team collected actual data from agricultural producers on the productivity of major crops in various regions and compared it with official state indicators and USDA estimates. This allows for a more comprehensive view of the season and a comparison of how data from different sources differ.

For ease of comparison, we have compiled the results of the agricultural producers’ survey, official state data, and USDA estimates into a single Excel table. The file allows for comparing productivity indicators by crop and region and observing the discrepancies between sources.
