The dairy farm “Hadz-Agro” from the Ternopil region has invested in energy efficiency. Currently, the enterprise is installing solar panels with a capacity of 2.5 MW.
This is reported in the blog “How large farms survived the dairy crisis of 2026 — AgroExpedition Milk 2026 blog,” which was released as part of AgroExpedition Milk 2026, held with the support of partners — KWS-UKRAINE and Credit Agricole Bank.
The enterprise believes that one of the main investments, without which it is currently impossible to operate a dairy farm, is energy efficiency. In the winter of 2025, the generator at the farm once ran for 36 hours straight without stopping and ultimately did not start up a second time. Therefore, solar panels are currently being installed on the farm.
Oleksandr Bondar, an expert from the agro-business support department of Credit Agricole Bank, noted that farms are no longer oriented solely towards the “green tariff” — today, the main focus is shifting to energy independence. Therefore, solar power plants are increasingly being installed in conjunction with storage systems.
In winter, the efficiency of panels drops to 15%, so the main load still falls on the generators, and to ensure a stable power supply, some farms use gas piston units.
“For the past three years, demand has been consistently focused on investment projects, but their focus is changing. If last year ‘solar’ was among the priorities, and the year before that — generators, then today more and more farms are investing in automation. This allows modernizing production and increasing productivity, which is especially important in conditions of personnel shortage. Today, the efficiency of a farm is largely determined by how capable it is of automating its processes,” noted Oleksandr Bondar.
