Ministry of Defence announced that the Ukrainian arsenal has been augmented with the first domestic jet drone interceptor, Alexa Spatium.
“This is a high-speed jet unmanned aircraft, developed by Ukrainian engineers specifically for the destruction of small-sized air, ground, and surface targets in real combat conditions,” the Ministry of Defence characterized the development.
The primary targets for the jet drone interceptor are Russian kamikaze UAVs:
- “Geran-3”;
- “Geran-4”;
- “Geran-5”;
- Shahed-131.
Furthermore, the new system can be employed against reconnaissance drones and helicopters.
Among the notable features of Alexa Spatium are:
- a powerful turbojet engine;
- a high flight ceiling;
- a considerable combat radius;
- a wide flight range—from low to medium altitudes;
- flexible combat application tactics—via pre-defined coordinates or direct guidance mode;
- variations in warheads—fragmentation-high explosive, cumulative, thermobaric;
- high maneuverability;
- complete remote preparation and launch;
- high maximum and low minimum speeds for fuel conservation;
- the presence of effective search and targeting systems, including television and infrared.
The Ministry of Defence also emphasized that the Ukrainian jet interceptor possesses reliable control and video transmission systems.
The drone’s dimensions are 1.5 by 1.7 meters, and it is launched from a mobile catapult within minutes. The product is manufactured from lightweight and durable composite material.
Specifications also anticipate that a UAV that did not accomplish its mission can return to its launch point and be reused.
As reported by dev.ua, Russia is expanding its network of bases for strike drones, from which new jet “Gerans” will be capable of reaching not only Ukraine but also deep into NATO territory.
Recently, former Minister of Defence Mykhailo Fedorov showcased one of the first Ukrainian jet interceptor drones created to combat new high-speed Russian UAVs.
